The American School in California
“A new school, probably the only indigenous one in the United States” is how architect Donald MacDonald characterized the American School that coalesced under the visionary leadership and pedagogy of Bruce Goff (1904-1982) at the University of Oklahoma in the 1950s and ‘60s. Opening with a screening of an excerpt from the documentary "Remembering the Future with Herb Greene", this panel brings together the work of notable University of Oklahoma alumni and affiliates Herb Greene, Donald MacDonald, Mickey Muennig, and John Marsh Davis, and discusses how they brought Bruce Goff’s pedagogy with them to California during the second half of the 20th century.

Presentation & Reception: AIASF Housing+ San Francisco 2050
This evening program recognizes the awardees of the AIASF Housing+ San Francisco 2050 Design Competition which the chapter initiated to address San Francisco’s housing crisis. Seven awardees of the AIASF Housing+ San Francisco 2050 Design Competition will be celebrated as the competition leaders come together for a lively discussion and reception. AIASF’s Housing Knowledge Community invited architects and students to rethink the San Francisco home after recent California legislation was proposed that would effectively eliminate single-family exclusive zoning; additionally, San Francisco approved the 2022 San Francisco Housing Element requiring 82,000 new housing units by 2031.

Join us as we learn about the planning, designing, and building of the new Center for Architecture + Design, its dream team, Aidlin Darling Design, and more than 75 in-kind Donors working collaboratively with BCCI Construction.
The vision for the Center for Architecture + Design is to enhance public appreciation for architecture and design through exhibitions, lectures, tours, film series, and other programs. Established in 2005 by AIA San Francisco, the Center is dedicated to creating a public-focused dialogue on architecture, design, and the built environment in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A Thousand Words: A+D Storytelling Through Photos (& Film)
Part-creative exploration and part-knowledge sharing of techniques and best practices, this panel discussion focuses on photography, and film, as visual assets for A+D firms. Featuring Bert deViterbo, AIA, IIDA from Gensler San Francisco and Takashi Yanai, FAIA of EYRC, along with architecture designer-turned-professional photographer Paul Vu. Moderated by Lisa Boquiren, a long-time contributor to AIASF programming, they will discuss the role of photographs, and film, in helping A+D firms pitch their services, win projects, get published and create a social media presence.
